Karen’s career in service began by volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Lake County, IL, supporting a brother and sister and their birth mother as they navigated the foster system. It was in their role that sparked a passion for advocating for children and a deeper understanding of the countless challenges families face due to poverty. She uses this experience to guide CLF in how to best serve young people with its innovative educational programs. In addition to serving children through non-profit organizations, Karen also worked for 13 years at Dwinn-Shaffer & Company, a mortgage banking firm in Chicago.
